People have looked up 2 Corinthians 1:9 ( CO(vid) 19 ) as some Scriptural reassurance during these times: “Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.”
I thought this was interesting, so I followed the rabbit trail to other portions of 1:9 verses in the Bible, and came up with a narrative with 19 of the verses which may help you find comfort in these challenging times. (Note: Verses are mostly ESV – see footnotes for verse references and notes)
God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,1 who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of His own purpose and grace, which He gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,2 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to His purpose, which he set forth in Christ3 – the true light – which gives light to everyone, came into the world,4 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.5
May your love abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment.6 Be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding.7 Love righteousness and hate wickedness. God, your God, will anoint you with the oil of gladness.8
What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.9 Today, the grain offering and the drink offering are cut off from the house of the Lord. The ministers of the Lord mourn.10 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.11 Fear the Lord, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.12 God said, ‘Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.’ And it was so.13
Hold firm to the trustworthy Word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and rebuke those who contradict it.14 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.15 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.16 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.17
The Lord grant that you may find rest, each of you in your household.18 Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you.19
