Mariposa

Entombed in a cocoon, it is not difficult to ascertain that one may feel trapped and exist devoid of liberty, making any form of escape without struggle a pipe dream. What’s interesting, however, is that many brothers and sisters I know (myself included) feel unable to escape their boundaries as a result of intangibles as opposed to physical barriers.

When the butterfly escapes from its leathery snare, it flutters away to survive in a whole new dimension. What once was deemed an earth crawler suddenly and dramatically becomes a majestic creature with realms of exploration far beyond its former self. But when one of us is poised to extend beyond the comfort zones of our own devices, we sometimes immediately retract.

So, what is there to do? Decisions have to be made. Far be it for me to exclaim the blissfulness of freedom, for in many ways I have yet to experience it. In my zealousness to pursue a dream, the need for change has once again reared its concerned head. And perhaps this whole litany of words is an excuse to graft a template of my world onto the rest…

So, are you feeling trapped, like you’re stuck in a holding pattern? Is the Lord’s Will for your life an afterthought instead of a predominant one? We hear from the pulpit all manner of challenges to consider in our walk, and yet the only walking many of us do is out the door with a warm fuzzy feeling, then it’s back to the routine of mediocrity and self-absorbed jubilation in other “non-spiritual” things.

When the butterfly breaks out into a new reality, it does not go back to crawling on the dust and dirt. It does not choose to stop using the wings it has been given to fly…
